Skill Based Mentorship

Find a mentor but become one too!

You don’t need to be an expert to be a mentor – you just need to be giving. Pay it forward and show them how it’s done!

Olivia Piazza

Lead Product Designer at RemoteTeam.com

Area of Expertise: Product, UX

Career Level: Early

Ask Me About: Product Design, Project Management, Startup Culture, Remote Work/Teams, Career Transitions, Women in the Workplace

I’ve never been a “defined career path” kind of woman. My education/jobs were inspired by topics I liked to study and work environments that suited/challenged my personality. COVID put my career into a tailspin but now I’m better for it! I am now the first Product Designer at a ~40 person startup leading the web design team, plus I manage the team of remote devs/designers.

Let’s talk about anything and everything – careers, politics, feminism, plants, mental health, travel, home decor – I love it all!

Nishanthi Balakrishnan

Ask Me About: Data

Nishanthi is passionate about anything and everything about data, currently employed in Sogeti with experiences in AWS Cloud, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, Teradara, Python, Java, Tableau, Machine Learning and Big Data. When she’s not engaged with data, she likes to dance, read a book, enjoy a good Netflix show, or hike the mountains. She’s an advocate for diversity and inclusivity, and can be seen constantly pushing to break the barriers. She’s also an ardent supporter of social causes.

“Whatever you do for yourself dies with you and whatever you do for others in the world remains and is immortal.”

Born & raised in the Silicon Valley of China, my 17-year-old self came to Canada alone with a big dream of changing the world and 2 huge luggage. As time goes by, I would like to think that I am making great progress on my journey, with my glass-half-full attitude bringing me lots of friends & knowledge.

With experiences in PM, VC, PE, Consulting & Trading, I learned to adapt to new teams and I have an acknowledged record of dealing with competing priorities and team conflicts under pressure.

I believe that a great product manager has the brain of an engineer, the heart of a designer and the speech of a diplomat. As a product enthusiast, I take the initiative to achieve great outcomes that exceed expectations at an unusual level of autonomy.
